Editing Services
I have been writing ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil. "Mom, how do you spell Barney?" I would ask, and then painstakingly scratch out the right letters. I soon graduated to writing short stories about a family of caterpillars, and then to creating my own version of Harry Potter's "The Daily Prophet."
When I started high school, I found a niche in the UIL Journalism club. I placed in every event at the State level competition my senior year, with two state champion medals. After graduating from Colorado State University in 2019 with a degree in Journalism, I continued freelancing for magazines such as SKI, Colorado Life and Colorado Biz, while also pursuing my dream of global ski instructing.
Last winter, I had the opportunity to dive into the realm of manuscript editing. I fell in love with the work--connecting with my clients, lending them fresh eyes and helping their writing take clearer shape. Absolutely hooked, I set out to do more.
What the editing process may look like with me:
During our first consultation we will discuss your goals for your work during our time together, and what expectations we may have of each other as editor and author. We will then determine the current stage of your writing, and decide what type of editing your work could benefit from most. I will summarize this into an informal contract for reference.
Developmental editing ideally happens somewhat early in the writing process, and focuses on organizational structure, pacing, shaping an argument, excising extraneous material, etc., as well as plot and believability of characters for fictional works.
Line editing focuses on phrasing, style and word choice, as well as creating clear and concise sentences.
Copy editing is done last, and deals primarily with the mechanics of language: grammar, spelling, sentence structure and formatting.
Types of projects I can edit:
Academic writing
Business/promotional writing/briefs
Creative writing
Technical writing
Online content
Ghostwriting
If you have a project that may fall outside of these boundaries but would still like to work together, we can do a free 20 minute phone call to discuss if I may be a good fit for what you have in mind.
As a highly empathetic person, I constantly use that skill set to guide my communication with others. I hope to make any feedback sessions as conversational and constructive as possible.
Typical price range: $30 an hour/per page rates available upon request
